Product inspiration
This board was created as a jumping-off point for the creation of W15 collection. I worked closely with others on our small team to try and introduce variations on prints and draw inspiration from other outdoor brands to bring some street and other outdoor influences into a very technical offering.
Product inspiration
This board was created as another Jumping-off point for the design process as we began to think about the introduction of women's and some elements we wanted to incorporate into the product. The board also incorporates textures, looking at other silhouettes and even some high-fashion color inspiration. Some of these ideas make it into the final product in some ways and others did not. This work was done with a contract designer whom we worked with closely. I felt it was important to have the initial women's design done by a woman designer, as I felt I could learn a lot. I was right, and the end result was better for it.
This board was put together to begin to think about the print direction for snow products for Columbia Sportswear many years ago, the basic process I go through remains the same today. The inspiration was taken from safety placards on commercial airliners and ended up making its way into a lining print for the collection.
